As the Expo 2020 Project Head assigned to represent Dulsco who are the Official Waste Management Partner of Expo 2020 Dubai, Joelle Saab is charged with the responsibility of overseeing all aspects pertaining to the delivery of a successful event including the design and execution of the waste management and recycling strategy, as well as achieving the sustainability related goals set for this event. Her academic background, including a bachelors degree in Biochemistry/Life Science and a masters degree in Environmental Sciences, is topped with 12 years of experience in waste management, recycling, material recovery, ecosystem restauration, reforestation and other environmental solutions. She initially joined Dulsco as the Recycling Specialist overseeing the operations of Dulsco’s Material Recovery Facility as well as designing and implementing recycling programs and conducting waste audits for clients. Prior to joining Dulsco, Joelle was the Environmental Expert of Emirates Environmental Group and spearheaded a variety of projects for the European Union (EU) and United States Agency for International Development USAID) in Lebanon. In addition, she was contracted to lecture a masters level course on Environmental Sciences at Saint Joseph University of Beirut. Joelle has a strong service oriented attitude with keen attention to detail. Passionate about sustainability and preserving the environment, she has focused the past 12 years on the environment and will continue this dedication into the future.

Dr. Fahad Alsaadi has 20 years of experience in business administration and management. He holds a Ph.D. degree with distinction in Total Quality Management. His research focuses on e-service quality in higher education in the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Fahad Alsaadi earned his master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the American University of Sharjah (UAE), and Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Admin (Distinction with Honors) from Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai. Dr. Alsaadi joined HBMSU in 2002. Since then, he managed a number of key projects and held vital responsibilities related to essential areas in the university, including Institutional Resources and Services division as well as Learners Development division. In September 2021, Dr. Alsaadi was appointed as the Vice Chancellor for Learners Development and he is responsible for advancing HBMSU impact by growing its brand, financial portfolio, and strategic partnerships, in addition supporting learner development throughout the learner journey. During his years of professional experience, Dr. Alsaadi received reputable professional qualifications in areas including leadership, quality management, human resources, and finance. Furthermore, he authored and co-authored scientific articles in service quality and TQM.

After graduating from the University of Amsterdam as MA in business economics, Olav started his career in 1999 as product manager for Philips Lighting in the Netherlands. After several positions in Latin America, Olav worked on the introduction of LED technology in Philips’ lighting fixtures for general lighting. Olav is based in Dubai since 2012 to bring LED technology and other innovations to the market in the Middle East, such as Dubai Lamp. Now Olav is looking after the agriculture business, as well as the market development for LiFi technology.

Dr. Ashraf Mahate is currently the Chief Economist at Dubai Industries and Exports, which is the industrial development and trade promotion organisation within the Emirate of Dubai and an agency of the Dubai Department of Economic Development part of the Government of Dubai. In his current capacity, Dr. Mahate provides econometric analysis, evidence-based policy design and development, information and advice to key decision makers that promotes a structured as well as detailed understanding of industrial development and trade policy’s role in economic growth, diversification and development of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Mahate is responsible for overseeing thought leadership within Dubai Industries and Exports in the areas of Industrial development, trade, trade policy, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation. He manages the high-profile portfolio of publications that serve the market-based needs of the business community in the emirate. Furthermore, he is closely involved with policy development and regularly works with officials from federal ministries and international agencies on issues related to industrial development, trade and international trade agreements. Dr. Mahate’s professional career has spanned academic, corporate assignments, including teaching at universities in the UK and the UAE. Dr. Mahate embarked on his career as an academic initially with Cass City University Business School part of City University in London in 1990. He later moved to Dubai in January 2000 and continued to be an academic commanding senior positions in international universities based in the emirate. With extensive regional experience Dr. Mahate has worked on assignments with the International Trade Center as well as the Inter-American Development Bank. Dr. Mahate is an accomplished public speaker and regularly delivers presentations at seminars, conferences, and industry-based functions in the UAE and overseas. As a professional economist with high-level management experience in the region, Dr. Mahate is an advisor to the SME sector, especially in the area of trade and a judge for various industry awards. Dr. Mahate is a regular contributor to various regional business magazines and newspapers as well as having written a number of academic journal articles, chapters in books and edited books in the areas of entrepreneurship, trade, finance and innovation. Over the past 29 years, Dr. Mahate has carried out economic and financial consultancy and training assignments for a wide range of public and private sector organisations. Dr. Mahate received his doctorate from Cass City University Business School in London (UK). He read Economics at University College London which is one of the principal colleges within the University of London followed by a Masters in International Economics and Banking at the University of Wales in Cardiff. Dr. Mahate is a professional educator and received his training at the Institute of Education (University of London). Currently, Dr. Mahate is a member of the Chartered Institute of Managers (UK) and a Member of the Institute of Commercial Management (UK). Additionally, Dr. Mahate is a member of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).

Mr. Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan has been in IP law practice for almost forty years and is one of the busiest lawyers in the MENA region for brand enforcement and contentious causes. His work has been covered by many leading law reports. A frequent speaker and writer on the IP law around the world including organizations such as INTA, PTMG, APAA, Marques, AIPPI and WIPO. A member of leading international associations of law practitioners, a former member of Board of Directors of INTA. He has taught IP Law at various universities as a visiting professor. He has also served as a constitutional judge of the High Court.

Dr Sanjai K Parahoo combines an Engineering degree with an MBA and a PhD in Services Management. He is currently Associate Professor of Service Innovation and Management at the School of Business and Quality Management at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, Dubai. He has published over 40 articles in leading journals in Service Innovaton and Management in both Education and Business settings. He is formally trained in Innovation and IPR management and has over 10 years experience in securing funding, and he has conducted and managed Research, Innovation, Consulting and Contract research in various countries in Africa and Asia.

Dr. Moetaz ElSergany is an Associate Professor at the School of Health and Environmental Studies at HBMSU. He has over 25 years of technical and teaching experience in the Field of health and environmental studies. He taught and developed many environmental health courses (water and wastewater analysis, environmental legislation, water sanitation, integrated solid waste management, environmental aspects of pesticides, environmental impact assessment, industrial waste management, and hazardous waste management). Dr. ElSergany participated in many environmental studies in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. He worked in a number of Middle East Universities. He worked as program coordinator and participated in establishing the new Environmental Health Program in Dammam University, Saudi Arabia. He was appointed as Assistant Professor, Environmental Health Department, University of Sharjah, and UAE. He has participated in installation, calibration and training in many environmental health laboratories in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and UAE. Dr. ElSergany supervised many Master and PhD theses

Ebrahim Soltani (PhD – University of Strathclyde, UK) is a professor of Quality Management at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Prior to his appointment, he was a professor of Operations Management at the University of Kent Business School, UK. Ebrahim’s recent research focuses on global supply chain and how the nature of upstream and downstream supply chain relationships influence the level of product quality

Prior to his appointment to Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University Boštjan Gomišček (PhD - University of Technology Vienna, Austria) was working with different universities and research institutions: University of Wollongong in Dubai (UAE), University of Maribor and University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), University of Technology Vienna and Austrian Academy of Science (Austria). While working at this institutions he was occupying different positions (Associate Dean Research, Head of Quality Management Laboratory, Journal Co-Editor, Head of Quality Assurance Committee, Guardian of the PhD program, etc.) and has been an active researcher interested in the multidisciplinary area of research - quality management and its role in organizational performance, business excellence, sustainability, health care, asset management & air pollution management. He took part in several national and international research projects within the EU research frameworks. His publication record contains over 350 items; he published in reputable journals, such as – but not limited to - JCLP, AE, IJOPR, JCN, TQM&BE and co-authored two text-books

Dr. Ying Ying Liao is an Associate Professor at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK. Prior to her current appointment, she was an assistant professor and acted as programme director at the University of Liverpool (China Campus). She received her PhD degree and served as post-doctoral researcher in the University of Kent, UK. She has been actively involved in several research activities internationally including joint PhD supervision, EMBA external examiner, committee member of international conferences, and ad hoc reviewer for several high quality international journals (e.g. JBE, TQM&BE, etc) and conferences (e.g. AMA, AoM, etc). She has currently published 12 journal articles (some in 2 & 3 - star refereed journals –ABS ranking, UK), 24 international refereed conference papers and 4 book chapters. Prior to joining academia, she gained extensive industry experience in various capacities in service sectors (i.e. hospitality, healthcare) where she contributed significantly to the enhancement of quality of service offerings. Her current research interests focus on service management (e.g. service quality, service failure & recovery, managing human resources in services and supply chain quality management).

Ahmed Ankit’s areas of interest for research include Applied Linguistics, Communication, e-learning and Education Leadership. He is the Dean of Research and Doctoral Studies at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He was the Dean of Education at the American University in the Emirates and previously the Vice President for External Relations and Cultural Affairs at Ajman University, UAE, where he supervised collaborative projects with international organizations and academic institutions. He chaired the Curricula and Study Plan Committee and contributed greatly to the licensure and accreditation of academic programs. He has been active in academia with a focus on teaching and research in Educations Leadership, Applied Linguistics and E-learning. He has presented papers at several international academic events and chaired a number of conferences.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Nakeeb is an Assistant Professor of Management at the School of Quality and Business Management at Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University. Dr. Al-Nakeeb received his Ph.D. in Quality Management from the University of Glamorgan in Wales, United Kingdom. He also completed a Master in Business Administration, a Diploma in Business Administration, and a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering all from reputable Universities in the United Kingdom. He taught various courses in Management and Marketing at graduate and undergraduate levels in addition to holding managerial positions. Dr. Al-Nakeeb participated in various international conferences and published in well-known international journals. His publications in Quality Management attracted international interests among academics and practitioners. He has also developed research interests in HRM and Marketing. Dr. Al-Nakeeb is a member on the Editorial Advisory Board and the Articles Review Editor of the Journal of Islamic Marketing, published by Emerald. He was granted the 2011 Outstanding Reviewer Award for his work on the Journal of Islamic Marketing.

Professor Baydoun is an internationally recognized authority on the impact of culture and religion on accounting and financial systems. He is currently the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at HBMSU in Dubai. He also held senior academic positions and staffed key board committees at various institutions in Australia, Honk Kong, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. Professor Baydoun has a record of accomplishment of launching innovative initiatives and building effective teams in large and complex organizations. He is internationally experienced in financial management, accounting, startups, restructuring and strategic planning. Professor Baydoun is supportive of enhanced scholarship and research; he published more than 50 refereed articles and books and serves on the editorial board of a number of academic journals

Dr Shaima AlHarmoodi is an Assistant Professor at Hamdan bin Mohamed Smart University. She has a PhD in the field of innovation project management. She is also an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem developer aiming to inspire and support the next generation of entrepreneurs and provide them with the necessary means to succeed. She leads the development and implementation of the university’s ecosystem long term strategy that incorporate impactful projects and initiatives. Dr. Shaima is also a Certified External Examiner by the Ministry of Education for licensure of higher education institutions and accreditation of their academic programs. She also actively runs workshops, masterclasses, and seminars in areas related to innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, and project management in addition to her interest in research that resulted in a number of publications in international journals and conferences.
